Requirements

Complete a qualifying premarital counseling program, then present your certificate at the county clerk's office when applying for your license.

Accepted providers

• Licensed Psychologist
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
• Ordained Clergy

Providers must be registered with Florida.

Certificate requirements

• Both partners' full names
• Completion date
• Provider name and credentials
• Total hours completed

No stated expiration — complete counseling close to your wedding date.

Where to submit

Where: clerk of the circuit court (with marriage license application)

How: filing with the application a valid certificate of completion from the course provider

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Find a registered premarital course provider in Florida (licensed therapist, counselor, or clergy)
2. Complete at least 4 hours of premarital preparation together as a couple
3. Receive your certificate of completion from the provider
4. Bring the certificate to the county clerk when applying for your marriage license
5. Receive the $32.50 statutory discount — and if you are a Florida resident, the 3-day waiting period is also waived
